*Only* main index will not display: wordpress brute force admin hack

*Only* main index will not display: wordpress brute force admin hack

My Wordpress site, http://www.whiskyfair.com.au/ was hacked by a group
identifying as team r00t.
Removed 'admin' user. Cleaned 'vandalised' index.php and 404.php
immediately. All other pages apparently not affected. However, the index
of the site does not render in my current theme.
If I break PHP anywhere before the main page template it returns a syntax
error, but if I do it in the sidebar it's fine.
Site being down is not a huge problem this time of year and everything all
backed up, so ultimately I will just do a clean install of Wordpress and
revert to old version of site.
However, I'm curious as to what is causing nothing to render on the main
index page? Thoughts?
Many thanks!
